🌐 Managing your website's domains

What is a domain for?

The domain is the address where your clients find your website and their client area. It is also the address used by the links you send by email: quotes, invoices, galleries, booking.

Once the domain is active, it is used for:

💡 Don't confuse this with the sending domain for emails (set up in your email settings, with the SPF and DKIM records). Here, we are talking about the web address of your website and your client area.

Where to find domains

In the menu, go to Website > Domains.

The screen is split in two:

• on the left, Where your website answers: the list of your addresses and their status;
• on the right, two ways to add an address: A Fotostudio address and Your own domain.

Two types of address

💡 The Fotostudio address is perfect to get started, and for the link in your Instagram bio. You can switch to your own domain later without losing anything.

Choosing a Fotostudio address

1. In Website > Domains, find the A Fotostudio address card
2. Type the name you want (for example mystudio): the .fotostudio.io suffix is added automatically
3. As you type, Fotostudio checks that the address is available
4. Click Use this address

That's it: the address works immediately, and the links in your emails use it straight away.

Rules:

• letters, numbers and hyphens only;
• some names are reserved (www, app, admin, client, galerie, blog, support...);
• only one Fotostudio address per account.

Adding your own domain

⚠️ Fotostudio does not sell domains. You must already own the domain, bought from a registrar (OVH, IONOS, GoDaddy, Gandi, Cloudflare, etc.).

Step 1: Enter the domain

1. In Website > Domains, find the Your own domain card
2. Enter your domain, following the hint shown under the field (for example www.mystudio.com)
3. Click Add

Which address should you enter?

• For your website: your main domain, with or without www as the screen indicates.
• For the client area only (if your website stays on WordPress, Wix, etc.): a subdomain, for example clients.mystudio.com.

The address then appears with the Pending badge, followed by the records to add at your registrar.

Step 2: Prove the domain is yours

At your registrar, add the record shown under Prove the domain is yours:

Each line has a Copy button: use it to avoid typos.

Step 3: Point the address to Fotostudio

Under Point the address to us, the screen shows the exact records for your domain. In the most common case (www.mystudio.com):

So that mystudio.com without www also leads to your website, the screen asks you, depending on the case:

• either for an A record named @, with the IP address shown;
• or to set up a permanent redirect from mystudio.com to https://www.mystudio.com at your registrar (the option is often called “Redirect” or “Forwarding”).

⚠️ Before adding these records, check whether there are already lines named @ (or empty) or www, of type A, AAAA or CNAME, and delete only those. Don't touch anything else: the MX and TXT lines are used for your emails, among other things.

Tips for entering records:

• In the Name field, enter only the name shown (www, _fotostudio-verify): your registrar adds .mystudio.com automatically.
• @ stands for the domain itself. Some registrars ask you to leave this field empty.

Step 4: Verify

Wait for propagation (from a few minutes to a few hours), then click Verify. Fotostudio shows a line-by-line diagnosis and tells you exactly what is still missing.

💡 No need to come back to the screen: Fotostudio checks your domain regularly for 14 days and sends you an email as soon as your address works. If something is still missing after 48 hours, you get a reminder.

Registrar guides

Fotostudio detects where your domain is managed and shows “Your domain is managed at...” with a direct link and tailored instructions. Recognised registrars: OVHcloud, IONOS, GoDaddy, Gandi, Cloudflare, Infomaniak, o2switch, Hostinger, Squarespace, Wix, Namecheap, DNSimple.

⚠️ Cloudflare: set the records to “DNS only” (grey cloud). With the orange cloud, the security certificate cannot be issued.

Address statuses

The HTTPS certificate (the padlock) is free and automatic. It usually activates within an hour of the domain pointing correctly.

💡 Once the address is verified, open it once in your browser: as soon as it responds, the links in your emails use it. As long as your domain isn't working, the links keep pointing to the current address: your clients never land on a broken page.

The main address

If you have several addresses (for example your Fotostudio address and your own domain), the main address is:

• the one used in the links in your emails (quotes, invoices, galleries);
• the one search engines pick up.

The first address you add automatically becomes the main one. To change it, click Make main next to the address you want.

Several websites? With the Pro plan and above, a Website served by this domain menu lets you choose which website answers on each address.

Changing or removing an address

Switching to a new address

There is no “change” button: you add the new one, then remove the old one.

1. Add the new address and wait until it is Active
2. Click Make main
3. Click Remove next to the old address

What happens when you remove an address

For three months, the removed address redirects to your current address: the links already sent to your clients (quotes, invoices, galleries, booking) keep working. On the date shown, it stops redirecting and these old links no longer work.

Removed addresses stay visible in the Removed addresses section, with the Redirects badge. Until the three months are up, you can click Put back in service.

⚠️ After this period, the address is released for good. For a Fotostudio address, someone else will then be able to choose it.

Frequently asked questions

Can I buy my domain directly in Fotostudio?
No. Buy it from a registrar (OVH, IONOS, Gandi, GoDaddy...), then add it in Website > Domains.

I'm on the Launch plan. Can I use my own domain?
Your own domain is available from the Pro plan. With the Launch plan, your website answers on your Fotostudio address (mystudio.fotostudio.io). If you move to a lower plan, you keep the domain already set up, but you can't add a new one.

My website is on WordPress or Wix. Is a Fotostudio domain any use to me?
Yes: use a subdomain such as clients.mystudio.com for your client area and the links in your emails, without touching your current website. See also the article “Widgets: Fotostudio in your website”.

The message “The TXT record for ... was not found yet” appears.
DNS changes can take up to a few hours to propagate. Check that the name is exactly _fotostudio-verify (without your domain after it), that the value was copied in full, then try again a little later.

The domain is verified but the certificate isn't activating.
The domain probably doesn't point to Fotostudio yet. Click Verify: the diagnosis flags the old A or AAAA lines to delete, or the missing record. On Cloudflare, remember the grey cloud.

My registrar doesn't offer ALIAS or ANAME records.
This is the case for OVH, IONOS, GoDaddy and others. Use the www version of your domain: the screen offers the Use www.mystudio.com instead button.

Will my emails keep working?
Yes, as long as you only delete the lines indicated (A, AAAA or CNAME named @ or www). The MX and TXT lines of your email service must not be touched.

What do my visitors see if my website isn't published?
The client area, bookings and email links work normally. The home page of the address leads to the client area login page.
