# Prospect sources, how to better understand your prospects

# What's the point of configuring your lead sources?

Configuring your lead sources in your CRM allows you to **identify the most effective channels** (social media, email, trade shows, etc.) to optimize your marketing investments and **personalize your approach** based on their origin.

It's also a key tool to **measure the ROI of your actions** and adapt your strategy in real-time by targeting what really converts.

# How to assign a source to a lead?

When creating a contact, or by editing it, you can add how you met this contact.

# Configuring possible lead sources

Fotostudio offers a list of default source types.

You can modify this list to add sources you want to track. To do this, go to the menu [Contact > Settings > Source](https://www.fotostudio.io/app/prospect_origins):

This way, you can add, edit or delete the sources of your choice.

A chart also allows you to view the distribution of your leads by source:
