Visionnage module: present and sell your photos live with your clients

This feature is for photographers who do (or want to start doing) in-person sales (IPS): show the photos right after the session, sort them with the client, sell extra digital files, prints, products and collections (albums, canvases, etc.) without ever switching to an external app.

What is the Visionnage module?

Visionnage is a full-screen interface, independent from the rest of the Fotostudio admin, designed to be used with the client sitting right in front of you (projected on a screen/video projector or during a video call): photo import, presentation slideshow, sorting, comparison, product staging, collection building, cart, and generation of a real Fotostudio quote at the end.

100% works offline (no internet connection needed): your photos stay on your computer (they are never uploaded), and everything you do during the session (sorting, cart, notes...) is automatically saved in the background, with no action needed on your part. Handy if you want to present right after the session or if your connection is unstable.

Enabling the module

  1. Go to Settings > Modules
  2. Look for "Visionnage" and enable it
  3. A Visionnage entry then appears in the Modules menu (Sessions submenu), leading to the module's settings page

Before starting your first real session, take 5 minutes to set up your default settings (digital photo pack or not, visual identity, music, slideshow texts...) and, if relevant, your sellable collections: see our second article dedicated to administering the module.

Starting a Visionnage session

Two ways to get there:

  • From an existing session's page: a Visionnage tab appears on the session page (next to the other tabs - Quotes & invoices, etc.). Click "Start Visionnage" (or "Open the Visionnage screen" if a session is already in progress).
  • From the module's settings page (direct link): "Start a session" button, letting you pick the relevant session from a list.

This session tab also shows you, read-only, a summary of what has already been done during the Visionnage session (rated photos, ongoing carts, quote already generated, composed collections, custom lists) - handy to pick up where you left off without reopening the full-screen view.

Importing photos

On the first screen ("Start"), several ways to load your photos:

  • Choose a folder: selects a whole folder (and its subfolders), automatically sorted in natural order (e.g. IMG_2 before IMG_10)
  • Choose specific photos: to select exactly the files you want in the system dialog box, without having to sort them into a separate folder beforehand
  • "+ Add photos" (from the Visionnage screen, once already started): to complete your current selection mid-session without reloading everything

ℹ️ No photo is ever sent to our servers: they stay read directly from your computer, for the whole duration of the session.

As long as no photo is loaded, the other screens remain locked (greyed out): that's normal, you can't work on an empty library.

Slideshow

The slideshow plays automatically (adjustable speed), with a crossfade between photos and a random Ken Burns effect (light zoom/pan) per photo.

  • Music: choose one or more tracks (built-in royalty-free music library, or an MP3 file from your computer) - several tracks play one after another automatically instead of looping on a single one
  • Opening and closing card: shows the client's name, the session label and date (opening), then a customizable "Thank you" (closing) - background and logo taken from your visual identity
  • Fixed total duration (optional, in the session settings): set a total duration in seconds, each photo will then display for as long as needed to fit within that duration, instead of a fixed speed per photo
  • Live favorite: click the heart (or press "1") to rate the displayed photo "yes" without leaving the slideshow
  • Full-screen mode: dedicated button (or "f" key). A black "gate" ("Press Space or click to start") is shown first so the client never sees the slideshow already running while you're plugging in the projector
  • Room view stagings: if you've composed a wall staging, a dedicated button lets you add it at the end of the slideshow (a still photo of the wall with its frames)
  • Filtered slideshow: from the Visionnage screen, launch a slideshow that only shows the photos currently visible according to your filters (e.g. only the "yes" ones)

Visionnage: rating, sorting and custom lists

The module's central screen: a contact sheet on the left (or at the bottom, adjustable), the large-view photo, and a rating/tools panel on the right.

  • Rating: Love it / Like it / No (buttons, or keyboard shortcuts 1/2/3), with automatic advance to the next photo
  • Filter the view: combine the 4 states (Love it/Like it/No/Not rated yet) to show only what interests you
  • Multiple selection: ⌘/Ctrl + click on several thumbnails to send them directly to Comparison
  • Drag and drop: reorganize the order of photos with the mouse (several at once if you've selected several), or drag a photo directly onto one of "My lists" to add it there
  • My lists: in addition to the Love it/Like it/No verdict (exclusive), create as many free lists as you want (e.g. "Album", "Gifted prints", "Save-the-date") - a photo can belong to several lists at once. Each list has its own color and an optional maximum quota. You can also reorder photos within a specific list (independently from the general order)
  • Black and white preview: small button to judge a framing/an emotion without being influenced by color (purely visual, not exported)
  • Copy file names: handy to quickly find the same photos in Lightroom (copies the displayed names according to the active filter, or those of a specific list)
  • Delete a photo: dedicated button or Delete/Backspace key on the displayed photo
  • Photo duration: on each thumbnail, you'll also find a settings button letting you choose whether the photo appears in the slideshow and set its display duration

Comparison

Select 2 or more photos (from Visionnage, ⌘/Ctrl + click): switching to this screen happens automatically from the 2nd photo selected onward (with a short delay to let you add more before switching). Each photo displayed shows a visible number (handy for the client to say "number 3" out loud).

Inspection tools (top bar):

  • Adjustable Zoom (2×/4×/6×) with a clickable/lockable focus point
  • Magnifier synced across all photos at the same time, at the same spot
  • Blink: automatically switches between the selected photos, in the same frame, to compare a specific detail (closed eyes, smile...)

Each photo keeps its own rating buttons (Love it/Like it/No), and a "Keep this one" button that rates the clicked photo "Love it" and all the others "No" in one click.

Products: real-size projection

Choose a product from your catalog (print, canvas, frame...) and a variant (size/finish): the photo is displayed at its real size on your screen, to give the client a genuine idea of the final result.

  • Screen calibration: a ruler to adjust against an object measured with a real ruler on your screen/projection, so that a displayed "20×30 cm" truly corresponds to 20×30 cm in reality
  • Reframing: zoom and move (drag and drop) the photo within the product's frame
  • Frame / gallery wrap: if the product is configured with a frame (color, width) or as a gallery wrap (with depth relief), the render automatically takes it into account - see our article on administering the module for the setup

Room view: wall staging

A wall (living room, bedroom, staircase, or a photo of the client's own room) on which you virtually place products or collections, at their real size.

  • "In situ" calibration: measure a known reference directly in the wall photo (e.g. "the bed is 1.60 m long") so that the placed sizes are consistent with that specific photo
  • Client-linked decor photos: if the client sends you a photo of their own wall, you can import it - it is then attached to the contact and reusable during a future session with that same client, calibration included
  • Step-based resizing: dragging a placed frame makes it "jump" directly from one available size to another from your catalog (never an arbitrary size)
  • Frame / drop shadow: independent options (bleed frame, drop shadow) to add relief to a print placed without a frame
  • Add to cart directly from the selected frame

Collections

A collection is a composition combining several photos into a single visual (triptych, "1 + 4", photo wall...), offered for sale in several sizes/prices.

  1. Choose a collection from the catalog (those created in the module's admin, see our dedicated article)
  2. Click on each empty opening to drag a photo from the library into it, adjust the framing (zoom/move) if needed
  3. Choose the desired size (if several are offered): the price is displayed automatically
  4. "Save as template" to find/edit it again later without starting from scratch, or "Add to cart" directly, or "Place in the room" to see it staged in Room view

Cart

  • Several carts per session (e.g. one for the parents, one for the grandparents), each with its own recipient contact (the session's main contact, another participant, or a brand-new contact created on the fly)
  • Add a free line (text + price + VAT) or from the price list catalog (any Fotostudio price, not just Products already configured for projection)
  • Edit an already added line (size, medium, finish) without having to delete it and start over
  • Discounts per line or overall, free note per cart (copied as-is onto the quote)
  • Generate the quote: creates a real Fotostudio quote (as if you had created it by hand), with thumbnails and file names for each ordered photo. A link lets you open it directly in the client area, to show/send it immediately
  • Order sheet: once the quote is generated, a dedicated page (accessible from the session's Visionnage tab) lists everything that was ordered (photo, product, format, cropping) to help prepare your supplier order

Digital photo pack

If you sell digital files by quota (e.g. "5 photos included"), enable the digital pack (session settings or module default settings):

  • A base included number of photos
  • Additional tiers (extra photo packs, at a decreasing price)
  • A price per unit beyond all that

As soon as the client goes over their quota by rating a photo "Love it", a popup offers them the next tier or buying the photo individually - never a silent overage. The cart automatically reflects the chosen tier and any individual purchases.

Client screen (2nd screen)

For a video projector/TV connected to the same computer: open the client screen (topbar "..." menu, "Client screen") in a new window to position on that 2nd screen. It shows only the photos (no control buttons) and syncs in real time with what you're showing: slideshow, contact sheet, comparison, wall staging, product projection, collections. The slideshow music plays only on this screen (never on yours, to avoid any echo).

Everything is saved automatically

Rated photos, custom lists, carts, composed collections: everything is saved in the background during the session, with no "Save" button to look for. You can close the tab and pick up later exactly where you left off (by reloading the same photo folder).

If you want to start fresh on a session already underway (e.g. after a test), use "Reset session" (topbar "..." menu): it clears the ratings, carts, collections and lists for that session. Quotes already generated are never deleted.

Frequently asked questions

Are my photos sent to Fotostudio's servers?
No, never. They are read directly from your computer during the session. Only low-resolution thumbnails (generated when finalizing a quote) are saved, to illustrate the lines of the quote and order sheet.

Can I close the tab in the middle of a session?
Yes, everything is saved automatically and continuously. Next time you start that same session, reload the same photo folder to get everything back (ratings, cart, collections, lists).

How do I find a quote generated afterwards?
The quote is directly linked to your contact and session. You can therefore find it along with all your other quotes, in Fotostudio.

Does the module work without an internet connection?
A connection is needed to save continuously, generate the final quote and reset a session. In case of a temporary outage, nothing is lost: saving resumes automatically as soon as the connection comes back.

Can I offer a different product catalog depending on the session type (wedding, birth...)?
Yes, from the module's settings: see our article dedicated to administering the module.

How do I enable a frame or gallery wrap on a product?
This is configured in your usual product catalog ("Frame" column, visible only if the Visionnage module is active). See our article dedicated to administering the module for details.
