Sometimes a variable isn't replaced in an email or a contract. There can be several reasons for this.

The variable's content is empty

Examples:

• You didn't enter a venue name for your shoot, so the {shoot_place} variable isn't replaced in the contract.
• You didn't fill in your custom field, so the {custom_XXX} variable shows nothing.
• The shoot's price isn't set yet, so the price variables aren't replaced. See the article Why are the price variables not replaced in my contract?

You tried to use a variable outside its intended use

Example:

• You created your own quote sending email template and inserted the {link_estimate} variable. The variable won't be replaced with the quote link in the email sent, because it only works in Fotostudio's quote sending email template.
